Mobile Auto Locksmith

Car or Van Keys Stolen?

Stolen vehicle keys create both an access problem and a security concern. You need a replacement key — and sensible advice on whether the missing key can be removed from the vehicle.

KeyLogik can provide mobile replacement-key services for many compatible vehicles and explain the available vehicle-specific security options. We come to you.

KeyLogik is a fully mobile auto locksmith — we come to your home, workplace or another suitable vehicle location. Available 24/7, although attendance is always subject to location, vehicle compatibility and current availability.

If you believe the vehicle or somebody nearby is in immediate danger, contact the police first.

If the vehicle is secure, send KeyLogik the registration, postcode and details of the stolen key so the available replacement and security options can be checked.

Practical Steps

What to Do After Your Car Keys Are Stolen

Stolen vehicle keys create both an access problem and a security concern. Take calm, practical steps to secure the vehicle and gather the information a locksmith will need.

Contact the police where theft or immediate risk is involved
Move the vehicle to a secure location where possible
Do not leave documents showing the vehicle's address inside it
Check whether house keys, garage keys or address details were stolen at the same time
Inform the insurer where required
Gather identification and proof of ownership
Contact KeyLogik with the vehicle details
Avoid leaving the vehicle unattended in an exposed location where practical

Please do not attempt to confront anyone or recover stolen property personally. Your safety comes first.

Vehicle Security

Can the Stolen Key Be Deleted From the Car?

On many compatible vehicles, a missing key can be removed from or disabled within the vehicle's electronic key memory when replacement keys are programmed. However:

The exact capability depends on the vehicle
Not every vehicle uses the same security system
A deleted electronic key may no longer start the engine
The physical blade may still mechanically operate a door lock on some vehicles
Mechanical lock replacement or recoding may need to be considered separately
Some vehicles require specialist, workshop or dealer-level procedures

Electronic key deletion and mechanical lock security are not always the same thing. We will explain what can and cannot be disabled on your specific vehicle.

What We Can Do

Replacement Keys After Theft

Depending on the vehicle, KeyLogik may be able to:

Gain entry where no usable key remains
Cut a new mechanical blade
Supply a compatible remote or smart key
Programme a replacement transponder
Programme remote-locking functions
Remove missing keys from the active key memory where supported
Test the new key with the vehicle

Exact capability depends on the registration, model, year and vehicle security system. Please contact us so compatibility can be checked before attending.

Home Security

What If My House Keys Were Stolen Too?

KeyLogik specialises in vehicle keys rather than domestic-lock replacement. If your home keys or address information were also stolen, we recommend contacting a reputable domestic locksmith to secure your home.

We do not make domestic-lock referrals unless one has been approved by KeyLogik. Please take separate advice on securing your property.

Stolen vs Lost

Stolen Key Versus Lost Key

The replacement process may be similar, but theft can create a greater security concern because somebody may intentionally possess the key and know which vehicle it belongs to. For that reason, removing the missing key from the vehicle's system is often sensible where the vehicle supports it.

For a genuinely lost key, deletion from the system may still be sensible where the vehicle supports it, but the risk assessment is different. See our all keys lost page for more on replacing keys when none remain.

Before We Begin

Proof of Ownership

For vehicle security, KeyLogik may request:

Photographic identification
Vehicle registration details
A V5C or other appropriate proof of ownership or authority
Permission from the registered keeper, company or fleet operator where relevant

Suitable identification and evidence that you own or are authorised to use the vehicle may be required before work begins. The V5C alone does not prove legal ownership.

How the Process Works

  1. 1Secure the vehicle and contact the police where necessary.
  2. 2Send KeyLogik the vehicle registration, location and circumstances.
  3. 3Provide identification and proof of authority when requested.
  4. 4KeyLogik checks the compatible replacement and key-deletion options.
  5. 5A clear quotation and suitable appointment are arranged.
  6. 6Replacement keys are cut and programmed where possible.
  7. 7New keys and any supported security changes are tested.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a stolen car key be removed from the vehicle's memory?
On many compatible vehicles, a missing key can be removed from or disabled within the vehicle's electronic key memory when replacement keys are programmed. However, the exact capability depends on the vehicle and its security system, so this must be checked using the registration, model and year.
Will the stolen key still unlock the doors?
A deleted electronic key may no longer start the engine, but the physical blade may still mechanically operate a door lock on some vehicles. Mechanical lock replacement or recoding may need to be considered separately. KeyLogik will explain what can and cannot be disabled on your specific vehicle.
Can you replace every key if all of them were stolen?
For many compatible vehicles, yes. If every key has been stolen, KeyLogik can often gain entry, cut a new blade and programme replacement keys from scratch. This is a more involved process than adding a spare, so please contact us with the vehicle details for a quotation.
Do I need to contact the police?
If theft or any immediate risk is involved, you should contact the police. This page is not police, insurance or legal advice. KeyLogik can help with the replacement-key and vehicle-security side once the vehicle is secure.
Should I tell my insurance company?
It is sensible to check your policy and inform your insurer where required, as some policies cover stolen keys. Whether you choose to claim is up to you. KeyLogik simply provides the replacement-key service.
Will the vehicle locks need replacing?
Not always. On many vehicles the stolen key can be removed from the electronic key memory so it will not start the engine. Mechanical lock security is a separate matter and may need to be considered on some vehicles. KeyLogik will explain the options for your specific vehicle.
What proof of ownership do I need?
For vehicle security, KeyLogik may request photographic identification, vehicle registration details, a V5C or other appropriate proof of ownership or authority, and permission from the registered keeper, company or fleet operator where relevant. The V5C alone does not prove legal ownership.
Can you attend the vehicle at my home or workplace?
Yes. KeyLogik is fully mobile and can attend your home, workplace or another suitable location. Attendance is subject to location, vehicle compatibility and current availability, so please contact us to confirm.
Can you replace stolen van keys?
Yes, for many compatible vans. KeyLogik can supply and programme replacement van keys and discuss the available security options. See our van spare keys page or contact us with the vehicle details for a quotation.
How quickly can a replacement appointment be arranged?
KeyLogik does not promise a fixed response time. Please contact us for current availability — we will arrange a suitable appointment based on your location, the vehicle and our current workload.
