What Is ECU Cloning?
ECU cloning is the process of transferring the required data from a vehicle’s original engine control unit into a compatible replacement or donor ECU.
Depending on the ECU and vehicle, this may involve supported memory containing vehicle configuration, coding, calibration and immobiliser/security information.
This form of replacement ECU programming can be useful when an original ECU has failed or become damaged and a compatible replacement ECU needs to be matched to the vehicle.

The ECU part number shown on the original and donor ECU labels must match.
Do not purchase a donor ECU until KeyLogik has checked the label unless you are certain it is the correct matching unit.
We strongly recommend sending us clear photographs of BOTH ECU labels on WhatsApp first so compatibility can be checked before anything is posted.

Can you clone a completely dead ECU?
It depends on the ECU and the nature of the failure. An ECU that no longer communicates normally may sometimes still contain readable data that can be accessed using specialist methods. Severe electronic or memory damage may prevent cloning. Compatibility and data access must be assessed individually.
Will the cloned ECU be plug and play?
A successful clone is intended to transfer the required original vehicle data into the compatible replacement ECU. However, this cannot be guaranteed to make every ECU immediately plug and play. Some vehicles may still require coding, adaptation, relearning or additional vehicle-side work.
Can I use any second-hand ECU as the donor?

Not for a suitable postal ECU cloning job. The original and donor ECU can be sent to KeyLogik once the service and compatibility have been confirmed.
